Reception desk on the... 6th floor

During my visit to the Muji Hotel in Tokyo, I noticed something genius about the way the building was laid out.… ready for this one?

The reception desk wasn’t on the ground floor.

“Why’s this a genius idea?”, you may ask. Well, the ground floor is prime real estate in a premium city, so why not use it for something else?

While you may not have a retail brand like Muji, you can partner with local bakeries or specialty coffee shops to enhance the guest experience.

With online bookings being the norm, the need for “walk-ins” has diminished.

Zoku Hotel is another great example, placing their reception on the 6th floor, freeing up space for other uses.
